A Brief Intro & The Band

Spurred on by numerous conflicts and war across the world, Airbridge main man Lorenzo Bedini assembled a 'prog supergroup' with the aim of recording and releasing 'Do You Wonder..?' to raise much needed funds for Amnesty International. He teamed with Amanda Lehmann to write this quite wonderful ten-minute song, 'Do You Wonder?'. Also joining this stellar line-up is guitarist Zal Cleminson (Alex Harvey Band, Nazareth), drummer Fudge Smith (Steve Hackett, Pendragon) and guitarist Billy McGonnagle (Orphans Of The Ash), while Solstice's Andy Glass has mastered.

The Story... In Lorenzo's own words

Do You Wonder...? is unique amongst my songs, in that I didn't want to write it; I just had to.

Like the rest of civilised humanity, I was appalled by what was going on in Gaza. It leapt into our consciousness, remaining there during every waking minute. I only had to say, 'How are you?' to a friend or neighbour for them to reply with, 'Ma Dio buono! Have you seen a paper today, or listened to the news?' Then I heard that what was going on in Sudan was even worse, and I hadn't forgotten Ukraine, Tibet, or the child slave labour in the lithium mines....

Reviving a keyboard riff from an old song which had never really seen the light of day, I set out with the idea of writing something new, and found that I couldn't write about anything but the suffering of innocents at the hands of warmongers and profiteers. My mind seemed frozen, unable to think about anything else.

There were chord sequence that I didn't like, chords for the sake of it, an uninspired vocal line, and a lyric that was okay, but nothing more. I considered scrapping the song, but decided to keep the parts that I liked and to start again. Had i not it would have felt like I were turning my back on millions of people around the world..

..And so with a new chord sequence and vocal line, I set about putting the track together, initially playing all the parts myself. I rapidly came to the conclusion that I didn't want to write a song like this to make money for myself as that would be benefiting from the suffering of others. This led to me thinking about who I knew in the world of music, most notably Prog, who might be keen to be involved in helping the song to evolve, be released, and to raise money for a worthwhile and much needed organisation, and cause.

The first person that I thought of was Amanda Lehmann who replied to say that she liked the song and that she considered the projects intention to be important. Despite being incredibly busy she soon set about writing a vocal line that is, as you will discover, passionate, sincere and absolutely stunning.

I then approached Facebook friend, and former Sensational Alex Harvey band guitarist Zal Cleminson and he soon agreed to come aboard together with his fellow Orphans of the Ash member, Billy McGonnagle.

Long standing friend Stephen Smith, AKA former Pendragon and La host drummer Fudge, soon joined us adding the perfect drum part, and playing with great sensitivity.

Wav files went back and forth across the internet, and the world recording our various parts in our various locations: Zal and Billy in Scotland, Amanda in England, Fudge in Devon and Cornwall, and me in Italy. Upon the song’s conclusion Amanda stepped in once again mixing and producing the final version before sending it to Andy Glass of Solstice for mastering.

Video man Richard Rix gathered footage that worked perfectly with the music, juxtaposing images of innocence and freedom with those of displacement and war, building the atmosphere and impact as a perfect visual accompaniment, particularly to Zal's astonishing guitar solo.

Finally PR man Richard Penguin is sending it out into the world and we are all hoping that you might be able to play or review the song and that as a result we will be able to raise much needed funds for Amnesty international to help the victims of war and atrocities. Everyone involved has given their time and expertise free of charge and this alone has restored my rather battered faith in human nature.'
